Exemptions - Graduate Diploma

Exemptions for the new Future Quals 2006 qualifications have not yet been published by CIPS and applications for exemptions are currently being reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The following information is therefore still valid.

It may be that once you have found your starting level, you discover that you have qualifications or experience that covers the same ground in the same depth as one or more of the modules that you will be studying. If this is the case, CIPS may exempt you from having to take those modules.

For Foundation Stage exemptions, your qualifications must be at least HND standard and relevant, and you are unlikely to gain exemptions on experience unless you have been working at a senior level for at least five years.

At Professional Stage, you may get exemptions from some of the Options and Electives if you have a qualification that covers the same ground in the same depth. Your qualification must be at least degree standard.

If you think you might have exemptions, you have to ask CIPS for them. When you send your membership registration form to CIPS make sure that you include the evidence they need to see.

If you are applying on grounds of experience (Foundation Stage only), you will need to include a current job description (showing at least three years relevant experience and ten years employment experience overall) signed by your line manager, your CV, a letter of support from your employer, and a statement explaining which modules you had like exemption from and how your experience matches up to them.

If you are applying on grounds of qualifications (Foundation Stage and Professional Stage Options and Electives only), you will need to include copies of your certificates, transcripts (listing of the modules you took, with whom, when, and the grades you got) of your previous studies, and a statement explaining which modules you had like exemption from and how your qualifications match up to them.

Remember, if you do gain exemptions from any modules, CIPS will expect you to be familiar with the content of the syllabuses in those modules, and you may have to demonstrate your knowledge in your assignments and exams on other modules.

Only CIPS can grant you exemptions, so make sure you have official letter from CIPS before you start missing out modules.

CIPS charge a fee of £25.50 for exemptions.
